SCHOOL NAME and HISTORY
Ferlou Elementary School is one of the schools of Cluster-I of the Division of
La Carlota City. It is situated at Hda. Ferlou, Brgy. La Granja, La Carlota City. Ferlou is seven kilometres away from the main city of La Carlota and surrounded by sugarcane plantations.
Most of the families depend on the sugarcane field as their source of income. The
Increasing population and living condition of the people opened the opportunity for the
establishment of school.
Mr. Antonio Hugo and his siblings generously donated the 1,000 square meter-lot which
was part of their inherited land from their parents to be made as a public elementary school.
They named it “Ferlou” after the names of their late parents: Fernando and Lourdes Hugo.
It was in 1963 that the first primary education was formally established in the place.
There were only two teachers assigned and patiently taught the children from the five
Surrounding haciendas such as: Hacienda Palencia, Hacienda Camille, Hacienda Arriva,
Hacienda Leticia and Hacienda Alejandria.
In 1972-1973, the school was added with six (6) more teachers and their teacher –in-
charge was Mr. Ephraim Espartero.
For the record purposes, these were the head teachers and principals who had served
Ferlou Elementary School.
